Scanning

Scan a cover, get a catalog entry

How Gronthee turns a few photos of a book into a full catalog record you can review, correct and save.

Gronthee team · · 1 min read

Typing a book into a catalog is slow. Title, subtitle, author, translator, publisher, place, year, edition, ISBN: a dozen fields, most of them printed somewhere on the book already. Gronthee reads them for you.

Take up to four photos

Start a scan and photograph the cover. Add the title page, the back cover or the copyright page if they help: Gronthee takes up to four images per book, from your camera or from files you upload.

More pages mean more to read from. The cover gives the title and author; the copyright page usually has the publisher, year and ISBN.

Gronthee reads the book

The photos go to an AI model that reads the text and fills in the catalog fields. Everything comes back in English, whatever language the book is in. For a Bengali book you also get the title in its original script, so the record works for you and for anyone searching in English.

You check it before it's saved

Nothing is saved until you say so. The editor shows every field the model filled in, and you can correct any of them. If the book looks like one already in your library, Gronthee tells you before you save a second copy.

When you fix a name, for example an author's spelling, Gronthee remembers the correction and applies it to future scans.

Then it's on your shelf

Saved books land in your library, where you can search, sort and group them. From there you can arrange them on shelves, share a shelf publicly, or export your catalog as CSV.
